How are maintenance and child support determined?

Both parents are legally obliged to support their children according to their means. Maintenance orders can be made by the Maintenance Court. The court considers the needs of the child and the financial capacity of each parent. Failure to pay maintenance can result in legal penalties, including garnishing wages or even imprisonment.
