Envirolaws (Pty) Ltd – Your Environment – Your Environmental Legal Advice Consultancy

We all want our environment protected. In this way, we can enjoy what it has to offer. Clean air, fresh drinking water and pristine beaches to visit, are but a few examples. If we use our natural environment in a sustainable manner, future generations would have the same environmental privileges we have. Therefore, we ensure that you know your environmental laws, and rights.

Environmental Laws

Section 24 of the South African Constitution, Act 108 of 1996, states:

Everyone has the right

to an environment that is not harmful to their health or well-being; and

to have the environment protected, for the benefit of present and future generations, through reasonable legislative and other measures that

  1. prevent pollution and ecological degradation;
  2. promote conservation; and
  3. secure ecologically sustainable development and use of natural resources while promoting justifiable economic and social development.

Standing strong with our Constitution, are other environmental legislation. For example, we have the Environmental Conservation Act and the National Environmental Management Act. All these laws are there to protect the environment for our benefit, and that of generations to come. It is therefore important that we all act within our constitutional and legislative framework to eliminate the global environmental problems we are all facing.
